I am a 22 year old, RECENT! Marketing Communications graduate from Western New England University in Springfield, Massachusetts. Currently attending the Miami Ad School in Brooklyn, NY studying Art Direction to hone in on my talent and skills. Now, I can finally take my life into full throttle and design who I am without being told what to do and how to do it. With love of finding reasons to work hard and play harder through the art of photography, love of music and art, and of course expensive things. I'm just starting out now so i'm doing my best to take more pictures and build up my collection in the process! Keep in tune to start learning more about me, lets become friends!
It’s been quite a while since I’ve been on here to get in some writing and leave an update. The past couple of weeks has been crazy with a new internship and although I still have a few weeks before graduation, i’m trying to finish up my portfolio so I can get my portfolio sent out to some agencies, maybe land a job in time for graduation? All I can do is try my hardest and hope for the best!
While I was home for break I did a lot of thinking and a lot of hiking! I was able to see my good friend, Stephanie, for the first time in probably over a year. She’s wonderful, she’s moved off to Denver to pursue her career as a teacher. From what she tells me, she’s loving the Colorado lifestyle and couldn’t be happier getting to spend time with the children she teachers, and that’s saying a lot for teaching at an all boy’s school!
Anyways, here are a couple of shots that I wanted to share. One morning I went hiking with Steph and her family. It was a great work out and it was awesome getting out there with them, great bunch!
Swell I guess ill use the free time in the car as a way to write myself another blog post. It.s been _________ a long time since. A lot of time has passed by but not a lot of things have happened since. The past quarter went terribly quick. That’s how it goes when you’re living and working in the city. We’ll.. “Working” is how I’ll put it. A lot of the internships we have at the school offer us a lot of opportunity to get used to the ad world, meet people who will probably be able to help us out in the rapidly nearing future, and I guess get our bodies used to the lack of sleep and large intake of alcohol.
I wrapped up whatever projects I had in my hands, nothing was made but at least people saw my dedication. Being one of the first there and one of the last to leave has to show some kind of drive. I still get excited when getting to daydream, I mean concept, on projects. Pretty soon this daydream is going to turn into some reality so I’ve gotta start getting used to how creatives are pitching their ideas and what ways we can take them. My friend, Erica, and I will be putting our time in at Razorfish next quarter and I couldn’t be more excited to be finishing off the programs it’s her in New York. She’s an incredible creative, writer, person, and she has enough personality to make Hov step back a bit. Who knows, maybe one day she’ll get to give him the run down.
Hold on.. Where the hell are we going to eat? Eh, as long as I’ve got something in my stomach soon I don’t care.
So yea, back home.. It’s good, but it’s stressful. Funny, right? How is it stressful bring away from the city and work? We’ll family is a lot heavier than the other stuff but it’s not that I have too much I think it’s that I don’t have enough. My best bud has always been too quiet for his own good. He’s a hellova friend but it’s getting hard trying to find something he’d be willing to do. My brother works too damn much and is getting taken advantage of at his job. My parents can never seem to handle the holidays well. Conversation just seems harder around here. Nobody wants to talk or go do anything besides watch tv or play video games. I want to get out and do stuff but then I’m lacking an automobile. Only downside of the city is not having a car when I get back home.
It’s anxiety inducing.
See, I thought the city was too fast paced but it’s a lot easier living there than here. People walk everywhere, they value time where they aren’t running around with their heads cut off, waiting for a subway lets you take a breath and living for the weekend really isn’t too bad. I really don’t want to settle down there but who knows, I really want to travel still and won’t be making any decisions with that until I’ve seen more of the country and more of the world.
So lately i’ve been stressing, big time, about the future. What I’m doing next weekend, where I’ll be headed next quarter, where I’ll be working in a couple of months, will I be working in a couple of months? I think a lot of people in my situation would be doing the same. Twenty-somethings striving to make something of themselves, shit, make rent is more like it. I think the worst part of it all is that we forget the reasons for why we do what we do. Our age is the age of creation, the amount of “creatives” in this generation, in comparison to the last few, are through the roof. We do it because we love to express ourselves through art, music, design, type, acting, fashion. Whatever. We forget we go into these because we have a passion for them and get caught up in the fast pace of our world. Slow down. Not all of us can be the next big thing, we can’t all create the next trend but we can remember to put the passion we once had back into our work. Whatever has fueled it in the past is still there and we gotta remember it’s still there, just buried in all that garbage we’ve been filling up over buzzfeed, mashable, twitter, and instagram.
To realize your future is somebody else’s past…
Something I just realized and was going to slap onto my Facebook is, it’s not the ones who did it first who are remembered but, the ones who did it best. Who crafted it best. Who used the best truth.
I’m going to try and remember to stop stressing over creating something new and get back to the old me. The one who did it because it he loved the craft and the detail.
You said it’s better if we love each other separately. I just need you one more time, I can’t get what we had off my mind. Where are you now when I need you around? I’m on my knees but it seems we’re going no where fast.. we’ve reached the climax.
New York, you’ve been damn fine to me, really! I’ve been around the world and have enjoyed every moment of the travel but I’ve never felt so “at home” away from home, than I have here. A new apartment, a new internship, a new roommate, and always adding new friends, this quarter is going to be, once again, a new start to what’s to come. I’m looking forward to producing some great work this quarter and prepping my book for finally shipping them off for some real jobs. I know now that I’m going to be trying to stay here in New York for the upcoming year (at least) and hoping to place some roots in this city. Favorite bars, restaurants, small shops, parks – who knows what’s to come?
Check out my portfolio, it’s pretty much where it’s going to be for the next week or so; http://www.mikeystacoshop.com – let me know what you think!
Hoping to get out and take some new picture or to shoot a video this quarter. I want to set up a photo project and hopefully finish one I have already started.. we’ll see!
So I was trying to think about what the best way to show some of my favorite pictures, from this amazing year, would be and, as I was walking through a shopping district with a buddy, I realized that fashion nowadays is nothing but a cool photo slapped on a white or black t shirt. I’m going to give it a try, I’m going to see the best way to print out a couple of these bad boys onto some quality t shirts. I’ll post a picture of them once I’ve gotten to that point!
I’ve been here for a little over two months and have filled my friends newsfeeds with at least a hundred pictures. After getting plenty of complaints of sharing the plethora of photos i’ve taken i’ve decided to delete instagram for a little while, at least until they have some kind of update or a new photo app comes out with something new. I’m done with the faux film filters for a little while so here’s all of the shots I took from moments before my flight till now. Everything I’ll share from now on will be shot with my digital or scanned in from my film camera.
